Class Description

Explore Your Voice • Build Writing Skills • Personalized Feedback COMING SCHOOL YEAR 2026-27!!! Age: 11-15 years old 50 minutes 1 day/week Does your child find writing daunting or uninspiring? In The Writing Studio: Fun, Feedback, & Imagination, students will explore writing in a supportive, engaging, and inclusive environment designed to inspire confidence and creativity. This class is ideal for upper elementary and middle school learners who want to develop their writing skills while having fun. Each week, students will explore a variety of writing styles and topics, including narrative stories, descriptive writing, letters, poetry, short stories, articles, creative nonfiction, procedural writing, fantasy, and science fiction. They’ll begin by brainstorming ideas as a class using funny prompts, imaginative scenarios, or “what if” situations, then begin drafting their own pieces. Students will have the opportunity to submit their writing assignments for personalized teacher feedback, helping them strengthen their skills in sentence structure, paragraph development, descriptive language, and story organization. Feedback is constructive, encouraging, and aimed at fostering both skill development and a love of writing. In this class, learners will: * Explore a wide range of writing styles, from funny articles & whimsical fantasy to descriptive narratives & persuasive letters. * Collaborate with peers in brainstorming & idea-sharing sessions. * Receive individualized feedback during class & on submitted writing to improve technique & creativity. * Build confidence in expressing their voice, ideas, & imagination through written words. From creating hilarious stories about everyday life to crafting imaginative adventures and thought-provoking essays, this class turns writing into a fun, structured, and academic experience that students will look forward to every week. All sessions are held through Pencil Spaces, making it easy for families to join from anywhere. Pencil Spaces is also used to post announcements, supply lists, assignments, & helpful resources, as well as to support communication between , families, & the teacher, keeping everyone connected & informed for the duration of the subscription.
