Class Description

COMING SCHOOL YEAR 2026-27!!! Age: 11-15 years old 1 hour 1 day per week Welcome to Math Mavericks, a hands-on, curiosity-driven math class where learners explore big ideas, tackle real-world challenges, and build confidence step by step. This welcoming space encourages students to ask questions, try new strategies, and discover that math can actually be fun (yes, really!). Each week, learners engage with math through games, collaborative problem-solving, and interactive activities that make concepts click. Instead of worksheets and lectures, we focus on doing, exploring, and discussing together. Students work at their own pace, share their thinking, and grow comfortable taking risks in a supportive, inclusive environment. Throughout the year, we explore essential middle school math skills like working with fractions, decimals, and percentages, solving equations and inequalities, understanding ratios and proportions, graphing on coordinate planes, and diving into geometry topics like area, volume, circles, and 3D shapes. We connect math to everyday life — planning budgets, scaling recipes, spotting patterns, and solving practical problems — so learners see how useful math really is beyond the page. Our classes are child-led, interactive, and designed to meet each learner where they are. All sessions are held through Pencil Spaces, making it easy for families to join from anywhere. Pencil Spaces is also used to post announcements, supply lists, assignments, and helpful resources, as well as to support communication between learners, families, and the teacher, keeping everyone connected and informed for the duration of the subscription.
