Class Description

Hands-On Literacy • Build Confidence • Fun Phonics Age: 7-12 years old 50 minutes, 2 days/week Price: $50 Welcome to a fun and encouraging literacy class where learners build confidence in reading, spelling, and writing through engaging, hands-on activities! Using an Orton-Gillingham inspired approach, learners explore language step-by-step in a way that is interactive, supportive, and designed to help skills truly stick. In this ongoing class, we break reading and spelling into manageable pieces while using visual, auditory, and hands-on learning activities to help learners connect sounds, letters, words, and patterns. Students learn by seeing, hearing, speaking, moving, reading, and writing — making lessons engaging for many different learning styles. Each class includes a variety of interactive activities such as sound and word games, phonemic awareness practice, sight word activities, spelling patterns, decodable stories, writing practice, and multi-sensory phonics exercises. Learners will practice important literacy skills while also having opportunities to interact with both the teacher and classmates in a welcoming and supportive environment. Throughout the year, learners will explore a wide variety of reading and spelling concepts including short vowel sounds, blends, digraphs, silent e words, syllables, prefixes and suffixes, vowel teams, r-controlled vowels, and more advanced spelling patterns. Skills are introduced gradually with plenty of review and practice to help learners grow into stronger, more confident readers and writers. This class is a wonderful fit for homeschool families looking for a structured yet engaging literacy class that supports learners at their own pace while making reading and spelling feel fun and approachable. All sessions are held through Pencil Spaces, making it easy for families to join from anywhere. Pencil Spaces is also used to post announcements, supply lists, assignments, and helpful resources, as well as to support communication between learners, families, and the teacher, keeping everyone connected and informed for the duration of the subscription.
