Class Description

Age: 11-14 years old 1 hour How does energy move through an ecosystem, and why does it matter? In this interactive science class, learners will investigate the complex connections between living things and explore how energy and matter move through the natural world. We'll go beyond the basics of food chains to examine interconnected food webs, explore trophic levels, and investigate how energy transfers between organisms in an energy pyramid. Learners will discover the roles of producers, consumers, decomposers, and apex predators while exploring why energy decreases as it moves through an ecosystem. Through guided discussions, creative activities, and ecosystem-building challenges, learners will put their scientific thinking to work, make connections, and discover how organisms depend on one another to keep ecosystems functioning. At Wild and Unstructured Learning, curiosity leads the way! This class offers an engaging opportunity to explore ecology, think critically, and uncover the fascinating systems that connect life on Earth. This class meets live online for one session, offering learners a focused and engaging learning experience in a single meeting. The session is held via Pencil Spaces, making it easy for families to join from anywhere. Pencil Spaces is used to post announcements, supply lists, and any helpful resources, as well as to support communication between learners, families, and the teacher before and after class, so everyone feels prepared and connected.
