Discovery Den: Second Grade Math

Class Description

COMING SCHOOL YEAR 2026-27!!! Age: 6-8 years old 50 minutes 1 day per week Welcome to Discovery Den, where second graders become math explorers! This full-year class invites learners to dive into numbers, patterns, shapes, and real-world problem solving in a fun and hands-on environment. Each week, students investigate new concepts at their own pace, building strong number sense, confidence, and a love of math along the way. Throughout the year, students explore exciting topics like place value, addition and subtraction (with and without regrouping), multi-step word problems, early multiplication with arrays, fractions, telling time, counting money, and 2D and 3D shapes. They’ll also practice measuring, graphing, and using math in creative ways that make learning meaningful and enjoyable. Concepts are revisited and reinforced through playful activities, games, and interactive problem-solving. Our classroom is fully inclusive and welcoming. Teachers provide gentle guidance, feedback, and encouragement, helping every learner feel confident to participate, ask questions, and try new challenges. Discovery Den blends structured learning with curiosity-driven exploration, ensuring that each child develops both skills and confidence. By the end of the year, students will not only master essential second-grade math skills — they’ll also discover the joy of learning, see math in the world around them, and gain the confidence to tackle new challenges with a smile. All sessions are held through Pencil Spaces, making it easy for families to join from anywhere. Pencil Spaces is also used to post announcements, supply lists, assignments, and helpful resources, as well as to support communication between learners, families, and the teacher, keeping everyone connected and informed for the duration of the subscription.
